What is Glucosamine HCL?
Glucosamine is a natural substance found in the body usually in substantial quantity. Amine and sugar combine in the body to produce glucosamine. The preponderance of glucosamine is found in the cartilage and is largely responsible for it's resiliency. While glucosamine has been shown to assist joint repair, it should not be considered as the whole answer.
HCL means hydrochloride. Glucosamine come in two forms. Sulfate and HCL. There is little or no difference in the performance of either form. The biggest difference seems to be in the making of glucosamine. When the sodium and potassium are added, the yield is 83% glucosamine for the HCL compound compared to 63% for the sulfate compound.
Studies indicate 90% absorption of glucosamine from oral administration. Researchers say glucosamine rapidly diffuses in most tissues and organs and has a special tropism (attraction) for articular tissue and bone. There are no known contraindications associated with glucosamine.
